Although the lady Rustlers season has ended with their second game in the Region IX tournament, one player earned post season recognition for the North Region and one player earned recognition at the NJCAA DI Region IX tournament last week. Coaches vote on the All-Region teams but a committee in Gillette voted on the All-Tournament team.
Heather Townsend from Douglas, Wyoming earned the All-Defensive team for the North Region. During her season she had a total of 57 rebounds and 23 steals. “Heather is very deserving of this award. She played against some great point guards but often found herself guarding the opponent’s forwards resulting in a mismatch, but she always stepped up to the challenge,” said coach Stauffenberg.
Olivia Elliss from Orem, Utah earned the All-Tournament team. During her last two games at the tournament Ellis scored 22 points and shot 11 of 15 from the field, helping CWC gain a victory over Northeastern Junior College, 66-45. In their next contest Elliss led the team with 18 points, shooting six for ten from the field and six for eight from the line. She was one point away from getting a double double in rebounds and tied with teammate Samantha Fernandez against Western Nebraska Community College. “Olivia had two great games at the tournament to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team and proved why she should have been included on the All-Region team, too,” said coach Stauffenberg.
